In the Antwerp Campine region and especially in the border region with the Netherlands, large natural areas have fortunately been preserved. We try to contribute to this by restoring nature on a small scale. In a part of our site, a monotonous spruce forest was planted 40-45 years ago. Due to global warming, spruce trees are less and less able to grow in our country and are attacked by bark beetles, after which they slowly die. This was also the case on this site. We therefore decided to remove almost all the spruce trees and to plant only native and typical heathland species on the sandy soil that had become available. A shallow basin in the marshy area also provides space for some wet heath species. In the transition zone with the agricultural area behind, a wooded edge develops, consisting of rosehips, hawthorn, blackthorn and numerous brambles, among others. All kinds of nesting boxes are scattered around the site, providing shelter for many species of nesting birds. In April-June, for example, you will probably hear and see Pied Flycatchers here. Next to the house, a Tawny Owl breeds, while Little Owl and Kestrel are found at the transition to the farmland. The small pond is a real hotspot for many species of birds and dragonflies, especially in dry, warm and sunny weather.

Unique concept: your own place for wildlife photography

Nature photography is very popular... maybe you or one of your travelling companions is also a keen photographer? Then we have some good news, because a real birdwatching area has been integrated into the grounds. Invisible to the many birds and other species, you can observe or photograph them here undisturbed and from very close range!
